How to Become a Pinterest Manager (2023)

Suppose you like designing social media graphics, performing market research, and implementing different strategies to market online businesses. In that case, you may be a great fit for launching a Pinterest management business.

Here you can learn how to become a Pinterest manager and launch your own Pinterest management services.

How is Pinterest used for marketing?

Pinterest is a social media platform that allows users to save images to virtual pinboards. It’s well known for being similar to Google because it works as a search engine. Pinterest users typically use the platform to search for and save ideas to pinboards that they can create on their own accounts.

The main reason why businesses and bloggers use Pinterest to market their businesses is that it’s another avenue to bring organic traffic to their websites. For many bloggers, the vast majority of website traffic they receive is Pinterest traffic.

Pinterest has grown to 459 million active monthly users in the past year. 53% of American women use Pinterest regularly compared to 18% of men. (source)

This is my personal opinion, but I believe there is massive potential for many small businesses to utilize Pinterest. The global pandemic in 2020 created a massive shift in how people use Pinterest, although some of these shifts were probably happening prior to last year.

I’ve seen small business owners experience success in the following ways:

  • beauty blogger shared tips and personal experiences on how to go gray and ditch hair dye for good
  • real estate agent created videos of home tours and shared photos of the latest trends in interior design
  • an educational blog that shared resources on fertility, miscarriage, patient advocacy, pregnancy, giving birth, and motherhood
  • registered dietitian publishing homemade, healthy recipes and educational information on intuitive eating

As you can see, there are a lot of creative people that use Pinterest! Most of these bloggers publish one new blog post per week and immediately share their new content on Pinterest. They discovered the power of Pinterest early on and were willing to invest in a Pinterest manager to give them the best results. For this reason, I think Pinterest services are becoming in high demand.

How do I become a Pinterest Manager online?

Before growing a business, the first step is educating yourself and building your skillsets in all things Pinterest. I highly recommend learning the in’s and out’s of Pinterest, Tailwind, and Canva.

Learn more about Pinterest, Tailwind, and Canva

If you’re unfamiliar, Tailwind is a marketing tool that allows you to create and manage a pinning schedule. They do have their features that allow you to design pins but I like using Canva to design social media graphics.

Tailwind has loads of information on their blog, including how to create a successful organic Pinterest strategy and the best practices for publishing pins on the platform. There have training videos for you to watch once you create a Tailwind account, but you can also access all the videos on their Youtube Channel.

Canva also provides education of their own with a design school. What I really like about Canva is the ability to create static pins and video pins all in one place.

If you’re comfortable with investing, you can sign up for an online course or join a community of Pinterest managers. I’m currently a member of the Simple Pin Collective.

Here are a few things you’re going to need to know how to do to bring value to future clients:

  1. Set up a Pinterest business account including claiming a website domain and setting up rich pins
  2. Perform keyword research and add the keywords to a pin design, pin titles, and/or pin descriptions
  3. Set up Google Analytics and download reports that show how much website traffic is Pinterest referrals
  4. Create pin graphics in Canva to use as templates for future blog posts

Once you feel that you’ve learned all the basics, it’s time to start implementing the strategies you’ve learned. You can either start with your own blog and Pinterest account or you can offer to manage a friend or colleague’s account. You can consider this work your “first client” and use it as a case study.

Pinterest Management Courses

If you’re able to invest in a course, I highly recommend doing so. I’ve taken a few Pinterest courses over the years, and this one is my favorite: Pin Profit Academy.

With Pin Profit Academy, you are signing up for a monthly, quarterly or yearly subscription. You will get access to all kinds of features, including expert video trainings on Pinterest marketing, Canva templates, and co-working calls.

So if you want to become a Pinterest manager with zero experience, you can learn everything you need to know, all in one place.

Create a brand for your new business

Honestly, the best way to create a professional brand for yourself is through a website. You can find clients and start making money without a website, but it’s really helpful for your ideal client to learn more about you and your value.

Personally, I created my website through Squarespace because they offer free templates that were pretty simple to customize. You can also sign up on WordPress and purchase a theme. You can keep your website simple for now by creating a homepage, about page, contact page, and services page.

You will also need to sign up for an EIN through the IRS. Once you’re making consistent money, you must register an LLC.

Then you should purchase a contract template to protect your business legally. I purchased an independent contract agreement from The Contract Shop and thought it was worth every penny. It gave me peace of mind knowing that I was protecting my business, and a professional contract definitely impresses clients.

While this part of the process can feel overwhelming, I promise it’ll lead you to becoming a successful Pinterest manager. It will initially feel like a leap of faith, but your hard work will pay off.

Create your services and set your rates

Pinterest services should include design work, managing a Tailwind account, and monitoring activity on Pinterest.

Determine how many pins you’re willing to publish each day as well as how many new pins you’ll design each month.

Then ask yourself, how long will it take you to do all that work? Price your packages accordingly.

The price range for Pinterest services can range from $300-900 per month. A new Pinterest manager should charge a minimum of $300 monthly, otherwise, it will be very difficult to scale your business later on. You can offer a discounted rate for clients who are willing to sign up for 6 months or more.

Time to find clients!

Now that you’ve laid the groundwork for your online business, reaching out to potential clients is time. Here are a few ways you can find new clients:

  • Post on Instagram consistently and add Pinterest hashtags to your captions; engage with other business owners and make authentic connections.
  • Participate in Facebook groups; there are lots of groups for virtual assistants, freelancers, and creative businesses. Answer questions, give value, and clients may come to you!
  • Create a freelance profile on a site like Upwork and start submitting to job postings.
  • Send an email pitch to potential clients that you really want to work with. If you decide to go this route, make your emails personable and show that you did your research on the client. Check out the client’s website beforehand to learn as much about their business as possible!
